The Client Who Changed Everything: Why You Must Say Yes Before You Feel Ready

It's graduation weekend at the Academy of Homeopathy Education and I am so proud of every colleague crossing the finishing line. It has had me reflecting on my own journey. This time last year I was fully graduating after four wonderful years of training. And I have been thinking about a particular day during school that I almost let pass me by.

The Day I Almost Said No

As students at AHE, once we completed our acute care internship and logged more than 350 hours observing chronic cases, we were eligible to sign up as case managers in the live student clinic. I had already been a case manager for a challenging allergy case a few weeks earlier. So when another opportunity came up, I figured I would let someone else step forward. Except there was nobody else available.

Our admin manager asked if I would do it.

Everything in me said no.

I didn't feel ready. I wasn't confident. To put it plainly, I was a bit scared.

I said yes anyway. Not because I had found some sudden reserve of bravery. Because there was a person on the other side who needed help.

There is a particular kind of dread that comes with putting yourself forward for a real case with a real human before you feel ready. You have studied the theory. You have memorized the remedies. You have allll your notebooks full of furiously typed lecture notes. And yet the thought of sitting across from an actual person who needs actual help, and being the one responsible for that remedy decision, is a different thing entirely.

The Truth About Readiness

The fear doesn't mean you aren't prepared. It means you care deeply about getting it right.

That case was at the beginning of 2024. And that wonderful person followed me into my private practice after graduation and is still my client today in 2026. I have worked with her and four members of her family, and she has referred people to me.

My practice was born out of saying yes on a day I desperately wanted to say no.

Confidence doesn't arrive before the case. It builds in the doing of it. Every case you take before you feel ready does more for your growth than waiting for a perfect moment ever will. The right moment is usually the one you almost talked yourself out of.

The opportunities that could prove you are ready almost never arrive after you feel ready. They are the very experiences that make you ready.

If You Are a Student, Hear Me Out

If you are sitting with that fear right now, the fear of not being ready or getting it wrong, I want you to know I have been exactly where you are.

I created Rubric Wise from a deep desire to hold myself accountable to my own ongoing learning after school and because I wanted to offer support to others in figuring out rubrics, repertory, and case-taking, so that we can each support our clients with confidence. And my client facing business is Leap Homeopathy, a nod to all the times I said yes, even when I was afraid. From moving to the US sight-unseen to starting homeopathy school not too long after rediscovering it, fear has shown up at every door. I still grapple with it all the time.

If you are a new student taking your first acute cases, I have something coming for you very soon. If you are moving into chronic supervision, I am building a pathway that gives you something solid to stand on with your repertory work, so that when you meet with your supervisor you arrive grounded and confident in your recommendations.

Getting started is half the battle, even when you are not ready. Trust the process and your training. More than anything, trust yourself.

I think about that yes a lot.

Congratulations if you just graduated or are graduating soon.
